There are many high priced products on the market today to choose from, but natural skincare is something you can do with everyday ingredients in the kitchen for just pennies a day. The three basic steps are: cleansing, toning, and moisturizing and conditioning, and you’ll learn here easy and affordable ways to do this at home for a beautiful, healthy skin.
The most important step is cleansing. Cleaning your skin properly removes make-up, cleans the pores, and exfoliates dead skin that can block pores if not taken care of. This needs to be done at least twice a day, once in the morning and once at night before bed. For a deep clean experience, steaming the face after you cleanse will open up clogged pores.
An easy at-home cleanser to make is the oatmeal cleanser and scrub. Simply grind oats in a food processor till they are like flour, pour a small amount in your hand and add enough to make a paste. Apply this to the face and throat, then massage it into the skin and rinse. Oatmeal absorbs and removes the dirt and impurities that can get on the skin; this gently cleans and exfoliates at the same time. Leaving you with smooth skin that is soft and clean.
Toning will stimulate the pores and help with blood circulation and can lessen the appearance of wrinkles. It cleans the impurities and removes the excess oil, which is especially needed if you are in contact with harsh conditions and dust daily. This also prepares your skin for conditioning and moisturizing.
One home-made toner that can act as an astringent is one made with cucumber. Simply blend a half cucumber, a half tomato, and one fourth cup of vodka till it is smooth. Apply this to the face and neck area, leaving it on for about five minutes before rinsing with warm water. Any leftovers that you have can be stored in the refrigerator in a sealed container.
The final step in natural skin care is moisturizing and conditioning the skin. As skin ages it loses its ability to retain water and becomes dry and wrinkly. This keeps your skin from drying out and restores the acid balance, correcting any imbalances you may have. Applying moisturize to skin that is moist provides the best effects.
You have to consider your skin type before you can know which moisturizer would best suit you. When making a home-made one, honey is always a good choice because it attracts and retains water. For normal skin, mash up half a banana, then add a tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of sour cream, and blend together. After applying to the face, let it set for about ten minutes, then just rinse off with lukewarm water.
Natural skincare is not complicated but it requires dedication. It is something that you need to think about each morning and night. You don’t need fancy or expensive products to have healthy skin either, everything you need is in your kitchen already and takes just a few minutes of your time to get it ready to use. Pay attention to your skin type in helping to decide which type of care your skin needs and you’ll have a healthy glow in no time.
